I’ve finally had some time to explore trends for 2011. In case you don’t have time to peruse the many sites where trends are mentioned, here’s a summary of some of the trends we might encounter.

  • Fashion: sheer maxi dresses, punk fashion, crop tops, tail hems, wide leg pants
  • Hair: ultra volume, messy waves, super sleek and shiny, woven locks, extreme side parts, low knotted buns, low ponytail, headbands
  • Color: farm (cream, browns, greens), corals, red-cast blue, pale icy colors, honeysuckle, wine
  • Weddings: well placed ruffles, dapper fashion of the ‘20s, princess silhouettes with bold trains, ballerina styles, ivy league, exotic Indian, wedding man-caves, pre-wedding pj parties, haute desserts
  • Tech: reduced IT departments, cloud computing, mobile computing, transformed technology, security, knowledge management
  • Travel: multi-destination vacations, group tours, contemporary cultural travel, seeing and learning, train trips, family trips, specialty travel
  • Food: global recipes, mobile meal planning, healthy eating, local food specialty shops, pies, pre-made ingredients, men in the kitchen
  • Financial: taxes down, stocks up, interest rates up, commodities up
  • Digital: it’s everywhere!, brand websites, emerging power of status update, social shopping, mobile web activity
  • Spiritual: I found little information regarding our spirituality in 2011. We who are believers are looking back rather than forward. No doubt this past year is an indication of what will happen in 2011, such as:
    • Growth of volunteer involvement in international relief.
    • Growth of Christianity in closed countries.
    • Growth in the church planting movement.
    • Growth of adoption as a family and church ministry.
    • Growth of church involvement in combating human exploitation.

On the other hand, we are also likely to agree that last year’s declines will continue:

  • Decline in church attendance.
  • Decline in faith among young Americans.
  • Decline in denominations.

Believers can set the trends they want their faith to show.  Our growth or our decline is our choice. Now is a perfect time to decide what your trend line will be for 2011.
