Today I drove to see a friend who will celebrate her 90th birthday in a couple of months. We had a delightful time sharing news, talking about life situations, and eating breakfast while seated next to a warm fireplace at the restaurant. My friend’s joyful heart brought laughter and smiles to the faces of our waiters as well as everyone else around us. After all, how often have you seen an elderly woman blowing the wrapping on her straw across the table? It may have been when we ordered two pancakes AFTER we had already ordered full breakfasts! Or maybe it was my friend’s well wishes for their Christmas celebrations.

My friend reminds me that we are the messengers of joy at Christmas. As always, Christ makes Himself known through us. We can bring smiles to our waiters, clerks, mailmen, friends, family, and those who pass us on the street. We can bring joy by being a friend, lending a hand, or helping someone make it whose heart is heavy with grief.

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11 (NASB)
