I was one of a group of doctoral students walking the streets of Seattle, visiting some transformational ministries at work in the city. We were exploring methods and models of ministry making an impact in this great city.
The weather was perfect that day as we climbed a hill to come to New Horizons. What looked like an ordinary building housed a small group of believers committed to bringing hope to children living on the streets of Seattle.
We saw where children come to get a shower, a meal, healthcare, clothing, and most of all, love. We heard what could be done to redeem children thrown away by parents and society. The presentation was unforgettable not only because of the heartbreaking situation facing so many children, but also because of the visionary, passionate, dynamic presentation from Ron.
I didn’t know at that time I would some day be in a situation to not only tell Ron’s story, but to also challenge others to see the needs of street children in their own cities and respond.
